Celebrated author and New York City transplant Hank Moody moved to Los Angeles after his acclaimed book was optioned, only to see it turned into a successful but crappy movie. Since then he has a writer's block and struggles to get his career and personal relationships back on track. Hank constantly deals with the problems that come from his inability to say "no" to drugs, sex and alcohol. His demons complicate his relationship with Karen, his ex-wife, whom he still is madly in love with and Becca, his 12-year-old rebellious teenage daughter.
Hank's lust for woman also taints his agent and longtime friend Charlie Runkle, who follows Hank in all kinds of naughtiness. Despite Charlies best efforts Hank can't hold it together and keeps falling apart.
